Ma An' Shan Forest Park

Ma An' Shan Forest Park

"Wuhan is different everyday". That's the city's slogan and quite appropriate considering the ongoing construction, demolition, and growing international presence. Rightfully so, Wuhan's eclectic mix of concrete and nature is suitable for any adventurous traveller.

I recently re-visited Ma An' Shan Forest Park in Wuchang and fell in love all over again. I love this park because it has something for everyone and you can honestly get lost just by stepping off the beaten path. At 20 RMB or just a little over 3 USD you can't beat this experience. The park is home to Monkey Hill, which is a place where you can go and bond with wild monkeys. By bond I mean feed them and try not to upset them with your red clothing. There is a Barbeque area that offers amazing views of the lake while laying in your hammock or paddleboating with friends. If you are a thrill seeker you can strap on your protective gear for a game of outdoor Laser Tag, yes, this does exist, no you don't have to play at night and yes it is STILL an amazing experience. In addition, if you just want to walk around and take in the sites the park offers paved trails, a variety of flowers, trees, and marsh life that will sure to make everyone envy you. Finally, for the lovers there is Lover's Rock where it's said that if you and bae kiss there your love is forever carved in a book. There is an actual stone book!!!

For this trip I focused on the beauty of the scenery and the juxtaposition of the concrete against nature's soft beautiful palette. I didn't make it through the entire park, but you can bet I will return again!
